On the evening of March 31, 1922, an unknown assailant or assailants brutally murdered all six inhabitants of the farm with a pickaxe. The perpetrator(s) struck with such ferocity that the elder Cäzilia suffered seven blows to the head, and her young namesake showed signs of strangulation and severe head trauma. What makes the case particularly chilling is that the post-mortem reports suggested that the younger Cäzilia had been alive for several hours after the attack, lying amidst the corpses of her family.
The Aftermath and Investigation
What is perhaps most unsettling about the Hinterkaifeck murders is that the killer(s) remained at the farm for several days after the killings.
